OSMOSIS TREATMENT

As all boat owners know, there is a specter hovering over all vessels made of GRP, (Glass-Reinforced Polyester), namely the threat of osmosis. This usually invisible creep of moisture through the gelcoat weakens the structure and eventually causes separation of layers resulting in structural failure. It is also no secret that early diagnosis makes an effective cure much easier; late diagnosis makes treatment difficult and costly.
International Paints and Jotun Paints, as well as others, have tackled the problems of osmosis treatment with good results and we are pleased to offer solutions through our Paint and Varnish Workshop where the following are applied:

•Jotun Paints Osmosis treatment
•Hotvac – this heat and vacuum application shortens the time needed to cure osmosis.


The most appropriate time period for osmosis treatment is between September and December.
